Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

Over a year ago, Congress looked toward 2009 as an opportunity to engage in serious foreign assistance revision. Although the topic is quite the buzz in Washington, most Americans are unaware of what is happening beneath the more newsworthy Iraq budget hearings and bank bailouts. "Foreign assistance reform" isn't exactly the most flashy issue, either, so gaining broad public support is something not likely to occur.

Regardless, we want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to understand the basis for foreign aid revision and why so many of our members of Congress are taking an interest in this legislation. Past AFJN newsletters have detailed the possible outcomes - from a "Department of Development" to a more serious investment in foreign service officers.

But now, we'd like to offer you the simple facts. Are you interested in knowing why is there a need for reform? Or what is being reformed? Or who is carrying it out? Click here for AFJN's new FACT SHEET on foreign assistance reform!
