The Africa Faith and Justice Network invites you to “Global COVID Response: Lessons Learned and Next Steps” a free, cosponsored online event on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm (EST US and Canada). This event will showcase the U.S. grassroots and faith-based organizing around the Global COVID Response Campaign for International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), a financial resource that may particularly help lower-income countries. The theme will cover the coalition’s accomplishments, which include the largest release of the IMF’s SDRs and other financial resources in it’s 78-year history, and the coalitions 2022 goals and what we aim to do in to ensure countries have the resources they need to respond to the ongoing pandemic. Learn how the coalition built people-power by bringing together a diverse group of advocates – including nuns, farmers, economists, and members of the African diaspora – and how it achieved congressional support for the historic issuance these resources for lower-income countries.

In addition to the panelists above, members of Congress have been invited to speak.

Co-Sponsors: Action Corps, the Advocacy Network for Africa, and our Global COVID Response Coalition. In addition to the Center for Economic and Policy Research, Sisters of Mercy of the Americas – Justice Team, Africa Faith and Justice Network, National Advocacy Center of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, Pax Christi USA, Demand Progress, Just Foreign Policy, CODEPINK for Peace, Brooklyn For Peace.
