A Liberian newspaper, Daily Observer, has singled out Dr. Anne Deborah Atai-Omoruto, an Ugandan doctor, as one of 2014’s persons of the year.
This is in recognition of her efforts in battling Ebola in the country. Since July 2014, Dr. Atai has been in Liberia where she has trained over 1,000 health workers in Ebola treatment.
“This is my vocation. I committed myself to treat people, to make them better,” the 58-year-old doctor said at the Island clinic in Monrovia, where she is leading a team of 12 Ugandan doctors, nurses and assistants.
Dr. Atai is head of the Community Health department at Mulago hospital. Her career experience spans 14 years in battling cholera, Ebola, Marburg and yellow fever outbreaks.
