To Mitigate the Effects of Climate Change, Ethiopia Strives to Empower Pastoral, Semi-Pastoral Society

More than 80 percent of Ethiopians live in the rural areas of the country and depend on climate sensitive sectors including pastoralist and semi-pastoralist people. Climate change has devastation effects on these populations include worsening poverty, water shortages, and food insecurity. The Ethiopian Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries (MoLF) has been working to transform the lives of pastoralist and semi-pastoralist people particularly in drought prone areas. Through multilevel interventions, the government of Ethiopia has helped improve production and productivity in the pastoral and semi-pastoral societies. The results are expected fish production growth rate of over 50 percent according to the minister of state Dr. Misrak Mekonnen.
