Press Statement: Africa Faith and Justice Network Cautiously Optimistic about the Brokered Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda Peace Agreement

Friday, the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Government of the Republic of Rwanda (Rwanda), facilitated by the United States of America (US), signed the “Peace Agreement between the [DRC] and [Rwanda]” marking the most recent attempt to bring peace to a region whose peoples have been suffering for three decades as governments, rebels, and military factions fight over the rights of critical minerals and land.

We also encourage all AFJN members in the Washington DC area to sign up for the Jubilee USA Network’s Relay of Hope event on May 28th at 9:15 am and participate in the Turn Debt into Hope Campaign.

Congress Must Reject Section 112105 of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” and the Proposed 5% Tax on Remittances

The Africa Faith and Justice Network (AFJN) has taken a firm stand against Section 112105 of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which proposes a 5% excise tax on international remittances. As part of our mission to promote just US-Africa policy, we oppose this measure that unfairly burdens African migrants and their families who rely on these funds for survival.
