Security and Peacebuilding
AFJN's Security & Peacebuilding Program, part of our Just Governance initiative, promotes inclusive, locally led peacebuilding across conflict-affected communities in the Great Lakes, the Sahel, and other regions of Africa.
Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching, we work with the church, communities, and local partners to address the root causes of conflict by strengthening dialogue, rebuilding trust across communities, and empowering youth, women, faith leaders, and local leaders with skills in mediation, civic engagement, and conflict transformation.
Working alongside local partners, AFJN supports community-driven initiatives that advance reconciliation, democratic participation, and accountable governance. Through programs such as the Dynamic Peace Ambassadors Network, Unity Through Diversity, and Sustainable Peacebuilding through Youth Employment in Agriculture, Supporting Corporate Social responsibility, we help communities build lasting peace through leadership, arts, advocacy, and economic opportunity in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone.
Recognizing the link between climate and conflict, we also promote environmental peacebuilding by supporting equitable access to natural resources and sustainable livelihoods. Through evidence-based programming and local partnerships, AFJN is helping build more just, resilient, and peaceful societies across Africa.

On Friday, ahead of Pope Leo XIV’s maiden visit to Africa, Africa Faith and Justice Network (AFJN) sent a letter to The Supreme Pontiff (through the Apostolic Nuncio) urging His Holiness to highlight key areas of injustice impacting the region.

The song “TUISHI PAMOJA Remix” by the Chorale St. Michel of Rubare–Rutshuru was released on October 15, 2025, to promote peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly in the eastern region. This artistic expression embodies the collective longing for peace, reconciliation, and justice of the Congolese people—especially the community to which these musicians belong.

Call for Action on Mineral Traceability and Conflict Financing in Eastern DRC
The Africa Faith and Justice Network, a member of the Public-Private Alliance for Responsible Minerals Trade (PPA), sent the “Call for Action on Mineral Traceability and Conflict Financing in Eastern DRC” letter to the PPA Leadership Team, urging them to take a clear and principled stance of the ongoing crisis in the DRC with particular emphasis on the issue of mineral extraction by unauthorized actors, including armed groups.
