Zimbabwe recently went through a change in government. In 2017, Robert Mugabe militarily removed via a coup that instated Emmerson Mnangagwa as the new president. The people of Zimbabwe were hopeful that Mnangagwa would restore democracy to the country, contrary to Mugabe’s violent and repressive rule, but the country is now experiencing an economic crisis under the new government. This instability caused recent violent protests that even resulted in the internet being shut down for a week nationwide. All this and more has caused Zimbabweans to reconsider whether they were better off under Mugabe, and whether Mnangagwa is the right person for the job.
