Michael Bryant

Michael is a second-year PhD student in African Studies at Howard University, his research explores the intersections of religion, culture, and community development across the African continent. He is particularly interested in the role of interfaith dialogue as a catalyst for social cohesion, peacebuilding, and inclusive development in pluralistic societies with a special interest in Sudan and South Sudan.

Michael’s academic work examines how interreligious collaboration—especially between Christian, Muslim, and traditional belief communities—can serve as a strategic tool to address social challenges such as conflict resolution, poverty, and youth marginalization. Through qualitative research, fieldwork, and engagement with community organizations, Michael aims to uncover context-specific models of dialogue that foster mutual understanding and sustainable development. 

Michael began his role as a Research Fellow with AFJN in 2025.
