Reflecting on 250 Years of Independence
As the United States commemorates 250 years of independence, the Africa Faith and Justice Network (AFJN) joins in celebrating the enduring ideals of liberty, democracy, and the dignity of every human person. This anniversary is an opportunity not only to honor our nation’s achievements, but also to reflect on the work that remains to ensure that the blessings of freedom, justice, and opportunity are truly shared by all.
For generations of Americans whose sacrifices, resilience, and leadership have shaped the American story, this milestone is a reminder that the promise of independence can only be achieved through an ongoing pursuit for equality, justice, and civil rights. For the millions of immigrants who now call the United States home, America continues to represent hope, opportunity, and the chance to contribute their gifts and talents to the common good.
At AFJN, we believe that the true meaning of independence is realized when every person – regardless of race, birthplace, faith, or immigration status – is treated with dignity, welcomed as a neighbor, and afforded equal protection under the law. A nation is strongest when it remains faithful to its highest ideals of justice, compassion, and inclusion.
As we commemorate this historic anniversary, we pray that this celebration inspires all Americans to care for one another, strengthen our communities, and continue building a nation where the blessings of liberty are experienced by everyone, leaving no one behind.
Happy Independence Day.
