On August 27, 2020, AFJN Executive Director Rev. Aniedi Okure OP, was quoted in Maria Benevento’s article “Filling vital US ministry roles, foreign-born priests need deliberate support to thrive” in National Catholic Reporter.
Rev. Okure highlighted areas where foreign-born priests would be a better fit due to their youth and varied cultures. He also discussed some of the challenges facing foreign-born priests including the difficulties adjusting to different cultures. “When priests come in from another country, they are priests. They are trained in Catholic theology like everyone [priests in the U.S.] but it is a different culture. It is a different ecclesial context,” Okure said.
