In an effort to “restore hope to hopeless girls,” five girls from Kenya created an app to combat female genital mutilation or FGM in Kenya. Although FGM is illegal in Kenya, it still affects one if four women and girls. The app, I-cut has the ability to connect women and girls to medical and legal help whether they are in risk or if they have been cut. The girls will be taking their app to California to participate in this year’s international Technovation competition, a competition where girls develop apps to solve problems in their communities.
