Alexander Hoyt is a Senior at Indiana University majoring in Public Management & Leadership, minoring in Arts Management and Intelligence Studies. He is currently participating in the Washington Leadership Program.
Elian Romano Brandt is a junior at the University of Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany, participating in 2022 Fall Semester Program at the American University in Washington DC. He majors in political science with an emphasis on international politics and minors in public law, history and gender studies.
AFJN welcomes Salena Geahwie as our 2022 Spring Intern. Salena is a senior at Trinity Washington University, where she is majoring in political science with a minor in English. Salena contributes to the Trinity community through numerous activities such as the black student alliance, poetry slams, and “Herstory”, an oral history class that focuses on the legacy and evolution of Trinity; she conducted interviews of Trinity alumni on their experiences at Trinity.

October 16 is World Food Day at the UN, and this year focus is how to achieve food security in times of crisis. This is a timely topic on the heels of last year’s food price crisis, the recent financial crisis, and the ongoing and accelerating climate crisis – this year, the global financial crisis has pushed over 1 billion people into hunger, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s latest annual report. Africa in particular feels the pangs of such a global crisis, where around 30 percent of the total population is estimated to be suffering from chronic hunger and malnutrition.
