On December 4th, 2013, families, teachers and students of Fooothills School of Sciences and Arts sent a letter to President Barak Obama. They urged him to personally call presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Paul Kagame of Rwanda and encourage them to be partners in building peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
They underscored the need to work with DRC authorities and the international community on the extradition to DRC of former rebel leaders and troops to face justice for their crimes. Similar letters were sent to US Special Envoy to the Great Lakes and the DRC, Senator Russ Feingold, US Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, US Senators James E. Risch and Mike Crapo and Congressmen Mike Simpson and Raúl Labrador. Africa Faith and Justice Network (AFJN) has begun a follow up to ensure that their voices and their message are heard and taken into account. On January 10, ahead of US Special envoy, Senator Feingold’s trip to the region, AFJN staff took part in a Congolese diaspora meeting with him . Among other things we handed to his staff a hard copy of his letter (PDF file here) and asked for action.
