The goal of this panel discussion is to explore, in brief,
the suffering of the African Church, to create the awareness of this
suffering in the minds of Africans in the diaspora and to explore
ways they can respond.
But while Africa is growing fast, it is not growing together. Pan-African solidarity has given way to national self-interest, putting the continent at crossroads and undermining its progress.

Yesterday, the Africa Faith and Justice Network along with over forty four national and international faith-based organizations sent a joint letter to Congress urging Members of Congress to reauthorize the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) before the end of FY2023 (September 30, 2023). Since 2003, PEPFAR has saved millions of lives around the world by providing capacity strengthening to local health systems, increasing access to lifesaving medications, and supporting adults and children living with HIV/AIDS.

On May 4, 2023 InfoGuide Nigeria’s article “Group educates Jos residents on social justice, stability” featured the workshop “Which way Nigeria”. The interfaith event was part of AFJN’s Women Empowerment Project and was in partnership with the Youth wings of Christian Association of Nigeria, (YOWICAN), and Jama’atu Nasri Islam, (JNI).
In response to this growing incidence of violence in our homes, the injustice against house helpers, and the violations of the rights of children, Africa Faith and Justice Network (AFJN), and Dominicans for Justice and Peace (DJP) in collaboration with representatives of various religious congregations of sisters, Catholic Men Organization (CMO), Catholic Women Organization (CWO), Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON),and several non-profit organizations gathered from December 10–14, 2022, at the Daughters of Divine Love Retreat and Conference Centre (DRACC) Enugu to learn, analyze, and reflect on this troubling issue under the theme: Violence in Our Homes: Tackling the Rising Incidence of Spousal Murders, and Abuse of Domestic Servants
Nigerian sisters and their communities are raising awareness about violence against women and child abuse and spreading their prevention mechanisms among young people in Nigeria.
Topics and Guests: Since November 6 government leaders and officials, environmental activists, other civic society activists and others have been gathering at the annual United Nations (UN) climate summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. UN Climate Change Conference is the 27th annual meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the 1992 UN climate agreement. COP27 is being held in Africa at a time the effects of climate change are all too visible to see—from the disastrous floods in Nigeria to the drought in the Horn of Africa.
Busiswa Dlamini is frustrated at the slow pace as her country confronts the effects of climate change. The Christian activist from Eswatini, the semi-arid southern African kingdom previously known as Swaziland, says as a young person, it is difficult to come up with solutions in the face of a system designed to continue the status quo.
The Oct. 26-28 Conrad N. Hilton Foundation global convening was an affirmation of achievements and a challenge, complete with instructive sessions, on how to continue to develop and reach goals for the more than 110 participants, mostly Catholic sisters, from 16 countries.
Led by AFJN-Nigeria and AFJN Youth, the religious women with the trained youth, and in partnership with the government agencies, took to the streets, markets, community centers educating the populations. A week before the campaign the participating youths were educated on these issues.
AFJN encourages all Americans and people of goodwill to use this day to reflect on our shared Christian calling for racial equity and find ways to take action in our own communities. As we celebrate this moment, let us also take the time to reflect that this is more than a celebration. It is a day of remembering. A day of honoring. A day of giving thanks. And yes, it is a day of talking about what is happening right now.
Washington, DC – On June 5, 2022, Pentecost Sunday, gunmen armed with explosives opened fire in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo town killing at least 50 people and wounding many more. Ondo State is largely known as one of the more peaceful states in Nigeria. In response to the massacre, the Catholic Diocese of Ondo’s Directorate of Social Communications issued a press release calling for “peace and normalcy to return.”
