Join the Africa Faith and Justice Network and Friends of the Congo for “Crisis in the Congo: Voices from the Frontlines” with Justine Masika and Pascal Mugaruka, recently arrived in Washington, DC from Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). They will provide firsthand accounts of the atrocities, displacement and occupation being carried out by the Rwanda-backed M23 militia. They will also share policy prescriptions that U.S. policymakers can implement in order to contribute to peace and stability in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
On March 8, 2023 International Women’s Day (IWD), Africa Faith and Justice Network (AFJN) celebrates the achievements of all women in the world. We raise awareness about the challenges that persist, and we urge everyone to take action to drive gender parity. Today, in our ministry, we celebrate the strength and power of women worldwide, and send a resounding shoutout to the important role of Catholic nuns whose tireless passion for social justice has helped advance the rights of women in Africa for 40 years. We reaffirm that women are the center of society and familyhood, sharing with God the creative process of life, and believe that women’s rights are essentially human rights.

The recent election in Kenya stunned Africa when Vice-President William Ruto won against his own sitting President and the country’s largest opposition party. Looking ahead to February 2023, Nigeria’s elections have garnered international attention with a third party candidate Peter Obi garnering support from the youth and the African diaspora against the two major parties. What do these elections mean for the future of Africa? Join AFJN as we invite prominent African experts from the continent to discuss these trends and their implications for the future of the continent.
The Africa Faith and Justice Network (AFJN) is hosting an online event on the ongoing Rwanda-Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Crisis. The event “End it : Rwanda-DR Congo Crisis” on August 25, 2022 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm ET will feature voices from the DRC who will provide updates and analysis. The panelists will also examine the role of the international community in the more than two decades long crisis. The event will also feature Q&A from the audience where audience members may speak and submit their comments on Zoom. This online event is free and open to the public.
The Africa Faith and Justice Network (AFJN) and a coalition of organizations are calling on President Biden to be a humanitarian. On August 18, 2022, the eve of World Humanitarian Day, at 8pm (ET US and Canada) organizations are holding a virtual call to action on Zoom where people across the country will be taking immediate action by messaging the President and Members of Congress. The event “Call on President Biden to be a Humanitarian on World Humanitarian Day” is cosponsored by AFJN, CODEPINK, Action Corps, Demand Progress, PeaceAction, American Friends Service Committee, and Partnerships for Trauma Recovery.

Fierce Urgency: Advancing Civil & Human Rights
The largescale transfer of wealth out of Africa drives much of today’s global affairs, and also explains much of yesterday’s. For four centuries outsiders have been plundering and carting away Africa’s natural resource wealth on an astonishing scale. The webinar will shine a light on key facets of the continuing pillaging of Africa in our time, the 21st century and will highlight how brutal this extraction remains with instigated wars, dangerous poisons, significant human and animal displacement and unsightly filth inflicting destruction on the people as well as on the fauna, flora and water sources of the once-lush environment.
On September 16, 2021 the World Bank announced the end of their publication the Doing Business Report (DBR) after a review that was sparked by data irregularities that were found. EAD 2021 is an opportunity to support this global movement centered on and led by the people and communities most vulnerable to climate impacts due to historic racial and colonial inequities. Together, we will passionately advocate and reimagine a world that lives out the values of justice, equity and the beloved community.
